Proof that a work existed on a date, without showing the work.

When research is lodged with FPR, the site works out a fingerprint of the text (its SHA-256 hash) and records it here with the time. The database refuses a fingerprint that does not match the text, and an entry in this register can never be changed or removed, by the author or by the editors.

The fingerprint says nothing about what the text contains. But anyone who holds the text can work out its fingerprint and find it here, which shows that those exact words were lodged at that time.
